ZAMBIA ALLIANCE OF WOMEN (ZAW) is a women led membership, non-governmental organization formed in 1978 and registered in 1982 to promote the themes of equality, development and peace in Zambia. ZAW's mission is to empower women to take charge of their lives through promotion of gender equity & equality, environmental sustainability and social justice so that the right to a healthy life is enjoyed by the present and future generations. In its 2022 to 2026 Strategic plan, ZAW is focused on three main thematic areas namely; Women's Rights, Participatory Governance, Gender and Climate Action.
Among the projects implemented in the recent past may be distinguished but not limited to the following: – National Dialogue on GBV in partnership with Southern Africa Trust – Enhanced Voice and Agency of Women in Extractives in partnership with OXFAM – Building Women’s Leadership in Climate Resilience in Zambia in partnership with Alina Mama Wa Afrika (AMwA) – Effective Participation of Women in Resource Governance and Climate Action in Zambia with funding from SIDA through We Effect. – Water and Pads project in partnership with International Alliance of Women ZAW has membership in form of community-based organizations such as cooperatives and women clubs in 6 of the 3 10 Provinces of Zambia. ZAW membership also includes individuals, students and small business owners.
ZAW has in the recent past worked very well in facilitating interactions and engagement between its grassroots members with Government, Private Sector and other key stakeholders such as Civil Society Organizations and Traditional leaders. ZAW members have also successfully embarked on social accountability.
This proposal outlines a 16-day social media campaign designed to raise awareness, educate the public, and encourage action against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The campaign will leverage storytelling, interactive content, educational materials, and community engagement to foster a deeper understanding of GBV and promote a culture of zero tolerance toward violence in Zambia.
